Lundia's Cubes: A case study to get you thinking
Lundia is a successful New Zealand owned and operated storage solutions company. Among their range of products they have a configurable cube item that comes in a range of stacks, sizes, finishes, internal options, tops and bases. They wanted to be able to have customers create and configure their own unique installations in a simple but visual way, to be able to see prices on the fly and then buy online.
While simple in concept the implementation of this was diabolically difficult. The number of possible permutations that could be graphically rendered was in the billions (we are reliably told there are actually 5,378,483,264 in total!) making it impossible to simply pre-create the images. What's more is each size, finish and additional option has its own pricing and to make things even more difficult, when it comes to shipping to different regions in NZ they need to know the total flat-packed volume vs the total weight in order to calculate the best freight charge.
This called for extraordinary expertise. Lundia came to us for a solution.
We created an elegant and extensible mini application combining Flash and PHP to come up with a 'cuberator' with enormous back end complexity yet which appears seamlessly simple from the user's perspective. Which is what a good solution is really all about as far as the end user is concerned: "The height of cleverness is to be able to conceal it". And if you, the manufacturer, have a great product which is combined with an accessible way for your customers to buy it you'll turn that initial effort into a continual revenue stream at the same time as staying ahead of your competitors.
Have you got a problem like this that needs some expert attention? Or do you have an idea lurking that up until now you thought was just too tricky to implement? Now's the time to get in contact with us.
