Key point

Not everyone is able to use the Internet like you do. Design your websites to be able to be used by the lowest common denominator.

Explanation

We often take it for granted that everyone will be using the same computer configuration as us to view our websites. There are people who have smaller screens (and even mobile devices these days) or have a disability that requires them to rely on a larger font size or even a screen reader.

There are simple ways to cater for these other, non-mainstream visitors to your website without compromising quality.

What you can do

Ensure all of your navigation and other critical content is able to be read as plain text. Provide separate stylesheets for mobile devices and for printers. Stick to web standards wherever possible.
